Specific Assignments

Specific assignments undertaken by Erik include:

• acting for the Bank of Papua New Guinea in relation to the drafting of a complete suite of new legislation for the PNG financial sector, including the Central Banking Act, the Banks and Financial Institutions Act, the Superannuation Act and the Insurance Act
  
• acting for numerous government bodies in relation to their powers and functions, including the Papua New Guinea Forest Authority, the Auditor General of Papua New Guinea, the Coffee Industry Corporation, the Post and Telecommunications Corporation, the Investment Promotion Authority, and others
  
• acting for a number of entities in the air transport industry relating to disputes, including matters involving aircraft operators and suppliers, repairers, financiers, insurers, victims of accidents, employees, shareholders and board members. Many of these matters have had a significant international component
  
• acting for Chevron and CRA in a number of constitutional challenges to mining and petroleum legislation

Erik practises in all areas of commercial and corporate activities including litigation, specialising in major commercial matters involving large companies and statutory authorities.

He has extensive experience in advice and litigation in all major relationships in the corporate matrix of PNG.

This includes relationships between companies and shareholders, directors, employees, customers, regulatory bodies, contractors, financiers, the state and landowners.

Erik has substantial experience with landowner disputes in both rural and urban Papua New Guinea and extensive experience with statutory authorities.

He is also experienced in relation to negotiations of terms of commercial agreements in Papua New Guinea.

Erik is a member of the Law Society of Papua New Guinea, the New Zealand Law Society and the National Institute of Continuing Legal Education (PNG).
